I can hear the sound on my Powerbook, but I can’t see the pictures. Any advice from other MacHeads out there?

Try using VLC to view it – can’t verify because laptop is at home today, but it should work.

Works perfectly here on Linux using mplayer. Why, you’re a pure genius :)

Quicktime 7 on the Mac plays it just fine and so does the latest VLC …though that PCM audio track is pretty hefty. :(

I’m using Quicktime 7 and get sound with no picture. Using VLC I get a picture but no sound – then it crashes! :(

Download Divx 5.2.1 and installing it got it to play great in Quicktime 7 on Mac OS X 10 .4.2 for me.

Mplayer OSX worked great, but died 3/4 of the way through. I guess that isn’t working great.

You’d think that any kind of movie would just play on a Mac (maybe even the Marx Brothers on Betamax). That’s why I spent the big bucks for this Powerbook, isn’t it? I mean that was what we were promised, right?

But instead we’re living in this video Tower of Babel. Punishment for our overreaching hubris in which we thought that spending a little extra $$ would solve our problems. Now our wings are melting in the hot sun. Such great promise. Such great disappointment.

Now on to create our own movies which will only play on the 7 remaining Commodore 64’s (and a handful of early Amigas)! With jokes that won’t makes sense in your language, but will be exquisitely funny in FORTH and ancient sanskrit.

Running OS X 10 .4.2 with registered QT 7 plus DivX 5.2.1 and it now plays properly. For some weird reason the DivX download decompressed into a folder that kept trying to open with OpenMan instead of running as an executable. Ended up renaming it via the Terminal:

mv DiVX\ 5.2.1 DiVX\ 5.2.1.app

Then it executed the installer package properly. Weird…

Still looking for the Ruby vs. Python vid…

The quicktime versions seem much happier than the AVI ones everywhere I’ve tried. Smaller, too. Which audio and video codecs are you using for each?

(Well, IIRC the AVIs were DivX and PCM , respectively. What about the MOVs? [yeah, I could tell easily if I had QuickTime Pro, but I don’t…])

MPlayer OSX works too.

Not for me. It quits partway in. VLC plays without sound, and randomly dies.

Does anyone know what it is about this that makes it different from every other divx/xvid thing I’ve ever tried to play?
