Here are some quotes from _Why’s show at RailsConf2006, at least, as accurate as I could jot down during the hurricane of hilarity!

_why, you are the only ever who manages to get away with premultiplied alphas AND make them look nice props to ya

I would really like to see that flash movie again called something like “We are all here in the future.” Are you going to post that one? By the way, how long does it take to create these movies? What tools do you use? Do you automate any of it with programming?

said on

Why, you forgot to mention the special installment of The Least Surprised on the opening page of a NASA Technical Paper.

said on

Carl: of course it’s been automated with programming. Basically Mr. Malsky just emails _why saying something like, “Hey, me and the gang have this great skit that we think would be funny… Maybe the Redhanded readers would like it, or it could be good for a conference too.” And then _why just types ruby record_least_surprised.rb and we have one of these nifty vids.

said on

No, see, Mr. Malsky doesn’t have to email _why anymore—he just runs a Ruby script to do it. Neither does does _why have to type ruby record_least_surprised.rb, there is a Ruby script which intercepts the email and automates that part of the process.

In fact, both _why and Mr. Malsky are large Ruby scripts. So is the Internet upon which they interact. And the so-called Universe?

It’s Ruby all the way down.

Hmmm… no sound in Linux, but I place the blame squarely on the suck-tacularness of Flash rather than on _why. Maybe if they rewrote it in Ruby, then Flash would be delightful rather than dreadful.

When can we get the torrents back? Or direct downloads? I must be ubertrendy and put them on my iPod!

Oh man, I totaly propose a Kernel.wtf! shirt. Or method. Either one. And Japanese Jesus! Greatness.

I’d love a bunch of t-shirts with some of these quotes:

  • “Every problem has been solved with Ruby”
  • “The professor’s pudding is not to be dismissed!”
  • “Pragmatic!”
  • “I think we’re going to confuse the ocean waves with all this typing / I think we’re going to confuse the tektonic plates with all this typing”
  • “Web 0.0!”
  • “[We use] Ruby to fight wars”
  • “Try?”
  • “methos … god of godlessness”
  • “gem install that!”

And any of the code fragments!

&4.method(:+)

Those would be the coolest shirts ever.

Srsly, I would almost pay for a dl-able copy of all the Least Supprised videos. But _why is not that evil.
OR IS HE ??? queue dramatic music

Your concert was the highlight of RailsConf and much better than I anticipated. Sad that the sound quality in the conference room was not good enough to get all the jokes across, but I am glad it’s online for the world to see. What did you do with your “certificate of non-conformity”?

This shit is amazing yo!

(Seriously, those cartoons are hilarious).

lol @ “Ruby loves me like Japanese Jesus”
